Naugatuck Man Wins $20K Lotto Prize on His Birthday
"It was all pretty unbelievable … winning $20,000 on my birthday!" says Daniel Fontes.
Imagine winning $20,000 on a scratch-off lotto ticket? How about winning it on your birthday!
That was the last thing Daniel Fontes was expecting when he bought a Connecticut Lottery scratch-off ticket from Stop One Mart on Aug. 5, his 31st birthday.

“My first thought was, ‘I better sign the back of this ticket,’” Fontes told Lottery officials with a laugh. “It was all pretty unbelievable…winning $20,000 on my birthday!”
Fontes, an electrician who lives in Naugatuck, claimed his prize check for $13,666 (value after taxes) at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill. “I’ll be putting the money right in the bank,” he said.

Fontes' $20,000 winner is one the top prizes in the “20X the Cash 5th Edition” instant game ticket. For selling the winning ticket, Stop One Mart, located at 282 S. Main Street in Naugatuck, will receive a $200 bonus check from the CT Lottery.
The overall chances of winning a prize in the $20 instant game 20X The Cash 5th Edition are 1 in 4.08. Of the 109 top prizes in the game, 63 remain to be claimed.
