Friends Help Family Whose Home Was Damaged in Fire

T-shirt sales will go toward helping the Martin family pay for replacing items that insurance won't cover.

Friends of a local family whose Millville Avenue home sustained serious damage in a fire early this month are stepping up to help.

The Martin family of 208 Millville Ave. lost many of their belongings when an attic fire broke out on Saturday, Sept. 7. Jessica Martin got herself and her three children, plus one of her child's friends, out safely.

Firefighters and police officers remained on scene for hours helping to save as many belongings as possible.

But the Martins still lost many possessions. And, unfortunately, their stroke of bad luck may put a damper on the mood of this Halloween season in their neighborhood because the Martins are known for putting on the best Halloween displays every year for the Borough to enjoy, said family friend Doreen Sorrentino.

Sorentino and other friends set up a fundraiser for the family on www.booster.com. They are selling Halloween T-Shirts and a portion of the proceeds will go toward helping the Martins with expenses that insurance won't cover.

“It seems appropriate to give back,” Sorrentino said.
