People Step Up to Help Vets Council Replace Stolen Flags

Flags were taken from St. James Cemetery. Now, patriotic and kindhearted individuals want to help. Find out how you can, too.

News that someone had stolen close to 600 American flags that were meant to be placed on the graves of veterans at St. James Cemetery not only angered many locals, it has also encouraged them to donate.

Several people have reached out to Naugatuck Patch and to the Naugatuck Veterans Council asking how they can donate money to replace the flags, which cost the Vets Council about $400.

John DeBisschop, chairman of the Vets Council, said he fielded some donation calls on Wednesday, the day after Naugatuck Patch first reported the story, which has now made state and national news. He decided to accept monetary donations made out to the "Naugatuck Veterans Council." They can be mailed to P.O. Box 226, Naugatuck, CT, 06770.

"If by chance we happen to receive more money than is required to replace the four boxes that were stolen, any additional funds will be used to purchase additional flags or veteran grave markers," he said.
