Board of Education Names Two Administrative Interns

The internship allows the selected people to work with a mentor principal in order to learn curriculum, instruction, and assessment as well as the necessary skills required to be an effective school leader.

The Naugatuck Board of Education announced at their last monthly meeting that two borough teachers have been chosen as the next administrative interns. The finalists were interviewed by a review committee consisting of central office and district administrators.

Brenda Goodrich, a reading consultant, and Kim Jones, the district math consultant, began their internships last week.

In order to effectively develop instructional leaders within the district, the school system chooses internal candidates to serve as administrator interns for a term that encompasses a full academic school year. They will serve in one or more Naugatuck schools during the length of the program and serve in the capacity of an administrator-in-training. The internship allows the selected people to work with a mentor principal in order to learn curriculum, instruction, and assessment as well as the necessary skills required to be an effective school leader.

Brenda Goodrich most recently served as a reading specialist at Maple Hill School. Prior to that she was a reading specialist at Hillside Intermediate School.

"My goal is to become a principal," said Mrs. Goodrich, "so I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to visit multiple schools and learn from the principals.  I will certainly miss the students and amazing staff at Maple Hill and look forward to returning at the end of the year when I intern with Ms. Kane."

Kim Jones held the position of district math consultant for the past three years. In that capacity she worked with K-8 teachers to re-align the curriculum and assessments in math.  Additionally, she coordinated Math Nights to foster a home-school-community connection in math.

"I will miss working with teachers directly about math, but I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with teachers and students in a whole school setting," said Mrs. Jones.

Congratulations to both of these educators on this wonderful opportunity.
