Find Yourself, Be Yourself, Reveal Yourself

An after school character development program for high school students at the Palace Theater

As advertised on WATR, a unique opportunity for high school students that includes the opportunity to attend a performance by the Blue Man Group

With support from the American Savings Foundation and the Broadway League Educational Grant Program, The Palace Theater in Waterbury is offering a limited number of Connecticut high school students the opportunity to experience and explore the Blue Man Group’s social commentary and performance art concepts in a structured after-school program held backstage at the Palace Theater. Through regular workshops and special opportunity events, students will explore the concepts of conformity vs. non-conformity as it relates to self-actualization and individual expression, studied through a mixed curriculum of theater, language, visual and musical arts.

Here are the details:
Beginning May 1, 2012, students will attend a series of bi-weekly after school workshops (Tuesdays and Thursdays) held backstage at the Palace Theater. Workshops will be led by professional teaching artists and guest speakers with a curriculum consisting of theater, music/art appreciation, reading, creative writing, and social action elements that explore the inspirations behind the expressive performance art used by Blue Man Group.

Students will be required to create and implement an original social awareness project inspired by the relevant issues addressed throughout the program’s workshops (ie; peer pressure, conformity, self expression).

Student participants and their parent(s)/guardian(s) will be invited to attend a performance of the Blue Man Group National Tour on Thursday May 24, 2012, at the Palace Theater, which will be followed by a post-performance talk-back opportunity with members of the cast and crew.

On Wednesday, May 30, 2012, students will present and exhibit their art work, social projects and learning processes in front of an audience of their families and peers at a staged coffee-house style event at the theater.
