To start, for the first time, the festivities will take place on the TriArts campus, where sparkling flutes of champagne will be offered, as well as cocktails, wine and copious hors d’oeuvres in a stunningly transformed Bok Gallery. A piano will provide background music while attendees browse and bid on a handpicked number of silent auction items.  Guests will then be invited to take their drinks into the theatre for a lively preview of the upcoming season, featuring Tony nominated performers along with 2013 cast members.  A completely unique group of live auction items, for which TriArts is justly famous, will be highlighted and sold from the stage.  Among them, a house on Nantucket,… a beautiful condo and private wine cellar tour in Napa …a seven course tasting dinner at New York’s landmark Gotham Bar and Grill with a specially selected menu and wines by co-owner and executive Chef Albert Portale.

Spotlight 2013 is the first “Curtain Up” on a bold and particularly courageous new season. In addition to the three main stage musicals audiences have come to expect from TriArts, there will be, for the first time in decades, a serious play. There will be two community cabarets.(The first one, opening June 7, is a retrospective of the work of George Gershwin with 40+ performers from our own community.)  There will be a revival of a Broadway musical by Jason Robert Brown (hailed as one of the smartest, most sophisticated composers since Stephen Sondheim) which showcases the amazing talents of community teens … the local premiere of a brand new work for the musical stage … the continuation of late-night patio performances … plus the extension of Youth Theatre to a year-round program.

“Our mission statement describes us as a theatre by and for everyone,” says John Simpkins, TriArts Artistic Director. “We think of ourselves as a teaching theatre --like a teaching hospital. So our objective, while offering quality shows with Broadway caliber talent, is to further the growth of artists -- both onstage and off– and to offer emerging writers a place to showcase their work. Now, we’ve put together a season which truly reflects that mission.  And Spotlight 2013—is one sensational curtain raiser!”

Spotlight 2013 is being co-chaired by Rob Fish, Jay Jolly, Priscilla McCord, and Emily Soell with the support of a hardworking seven-person committee.   The tickets are priced at $125 per person and reservations can be made by calling 860-364-SHOW (7469).
