Landmark Community Theatre Announces 2014 Season

The 2014 season offers five main stage shows including comedies, musicals for both Broadway lovers and families and a classic holiday favorite! This season will also include a BONUS 6th production – the premier of an original musical.

Landmark Community Theatre announces its 2014 SEASON PRODUCTIONS.

Landmark Community Theatre (LCT) is very excited to be entering into its third season of managing the Historic Thomaston Opera House.  The 2014 season offers five main stage shows including comedies, musicals for both Broadway lovers and families and a classic holiday favorite! This season will also include a BONUS 6th production – the premier of an original musical. 

The 2014 Season will start off with a comedy, A GAME'S AFOOT by Ken Ludwig, showing February 15, 21, 22 @ 8pm and February 16 & 23 @ 2pm. From the master of mayhem comes a whodunit filled with twists, turns and murderous pandemonium. 1930s actor William Gillette, world famous for his stage persona of Sherlock Holmes, invites colorful characters to his eccentric Connecticut castle for the weekend. The festivities turn deadly when one of his guests ends up stabbed. Gillette must don his Holmes persona, sidestep danger, navigate his own secret passages and unmask the culprit’s murderous romp. Billed as a comedy thriller you will find yourself swept along for a wild and funny ride!

The first musical of the season is a Rogers and Hammerstein Broadway classic, SOUTH PACIFIC, showing March 29, April 4, 5, 11, 12 @ 8pm and March 30, April 6 & 13 @ 2pm. On an island paradise during World War II, two love stories are threatened by the dangers of prejudice and war. A spunky nurse from Arkansas falls in love with a mature French planter and father of two native children causing the Navy Nurse to struggles with her extreme prejudices. Sharing in the romantic struggles is a strapping Lt. who denies himself a future with an innocent Tonkinese girl. Meanwhile, American sailors are growing restless and bored without combat to keep them active or women to entertain them in their downtime. A classic Broadway musical with well-known music such as “Bali Ha’i”, “There is Nothing Like a Dame”, “Younger than Springtime” & “Some Enchanted Evening”

Our summer production is one for the whole family, Disney’s MARY POPPINS, showing July 19, 25, 26, August 1 @ 8pm and July 20, 27, August 2, 3 @ 2pm. A Musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film with original music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and book by Julian Fellowes with new songs and additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Join Bert, jack-of-all trades, as he introduces you to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Classic songs such as “Chim Chim Cher-ee”, “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” will take you and your family on a magical adventure through rainy London, England!

The third musical of the 2014 Season is the tale of an iconic music legend, THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY, showing September 20, 26, 27, October 3 & 4 @ 8pm and September 21, 28, October 5 @ 2pm. The Buddy Holly Story relives the three years in which Buddy became the world’s top recording artist, achieving hit singles with The Crickets, becoming the first white group to perform at the Apollo Theater, starting a solo career and making a fateful decision during a February blizzard... The show features over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits including “Peggy Sue”, “That’ll Be The Day”, “Oh Boy”,  “Everyday”, “Maybe Baby”, as well as Ritchie Valens’ “La Bamba”, and the Big Bopper’s “Chantilly Lace”. The incredible legacy of the young man with glasses, whose musical career spanned an all-too-brief period during the golden days of rock ‘n’ roll, continues to live on in BUDDY.

A BONUS production and an original debut musical is THE THRILL OF IT ALL by local musician/director Karl Gallmyer, showing October 25, 31, November 1  @ 8pm and October 26, October 2 @ 2pm. Filled with the optimism and can-do attitude of the time, our hero, Jimmy Applebaum, decides that his hometown of Fair Oaks, Indiana is too small to satisfy his dreams and sets off to find his fortune in the big city of Chicago. Soon, however, Jimmy finds himself in over-his-head when he meets Nick D'Angelo who convinces a naive Jimmy to join his Association Of Investment Counselors, a secret front for Nick's gambling operation, full of seedy henchmen all trying to "pin the rap" on Jimmy every chance they get. Jimmy helps catch the gangsters, becomes a pioneer in television and modern marketing and, of course, gets the girl. But which one? Mary Rand, the girl he left behind in Fair Oaks, or Evie Starling, the exciting and seductive gangster's moll who befriends him in Chicago? With characters and songs in the American musical theatre tradition, this funny and touching musical will leave you humming along while reminding you to "do it for The Thrill Of It All”.

The final production of the 2014 Season is a classic Holiday favorite, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, showing November 28 & 29, December 5,6,12,13 @ 8pm and November 30, December 7 & 14 @ 2pm. Three spirits take the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge on a journey through his past, present and future where he learns the true meaning of Christmas and life. This traditional re-telling of Charles Dickens’ timeless classic will enchant you and your family!

Subscriptions are available for Landmark Community Theatre's 2014 season at the Thomaston Opera House. Subscriptions offer the best seats available at the lowest prices. Subscribers may make all of their performance selections at the time of purchase or as the season progresses.

Landmark Community Theatre also offers a season Flex Pass for the undecided patron or to give as a gift. The Flex Pass offers four admissions at discounted prices to any one of LCT 2014 Season main stage productions. The four admissions may be used in any combination of shows i.e. 1 ticket to four shows, 2 tickets to two shows or 4 tickets to one show.
