Maple Hill Students to Celebrate International Pay It Forward Day

Maple Hill students came home on Monday with a new "Pay It Forward" bracelet on their wrist.

April 24, 2014 is International Pay it Forward Day and the students and staff at Maple Hill Elementary School will be celebrating all week long. There will be special morning announcements and a reading of Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson. Cool “Pay It Forward” bracelets were distributed to every student on Monday.

It’s all a part of the school's continued dedication to recognizing and promoting the positive behaviors that the students display every day.

Parents were encouraged to ask their child what he or she has learned about the meaning of paying it forward, and take this moment to talk to him/her about the importance of being kind to others.

School counselor Katie Goodman brought the celebration to Maple Hill. She describes the program this way:

"Of course it is easy to be kind to our close friends and family, but for this week, let’s focus on being kind to those around us who may need it most—the student playing alone at recess, for example, or the one who feels left out at the lunch table. And remember, when someone does something kind for you, you should do kind deeds for others in return.  That’s what paying it forward is all about!"
