“GREASE IS THE WORD” IN WATERBURY
Palace Theater Presents Sing-A-Long Grease
Waterbury - “Greased Lightning” will strike the Palace Theater in Waterbury, when the theater presents Sing-a-long Grease on Thursday, February 27, at 7:30p.m. Tickets for the interactive film screening are $21.25, and can be purchased by phone at 203-346-2000, online at www.palacetheaterct.org, or in person at the box office, 100 East Main Street in Waterbury.
Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a T-bird or a Pink Lady, but never quite felt cool enough to pull it off? Well, now is the chance to don those pink jackets, grease up those coifs, and get ready for an evening where the audience is the star and “Grease is the word.”
A completely interactive event, Sing-a-long Grease is a film screening of the classic John Travolta and Olivia Newton John film presented with subtitles so the audience can sing along. The fun begins with a vocal warm-up led by WTNH Traffic Reporter and CT Style Host Teresa Dufour (formerly LaBarbera) along with local community theater leading man, Ian Diedrich. After the warm-up, Dufour and Deidrich will teach the audience the ‘hand-jive’ and walk them through their complimentary goody bag, which contains props to be used during certain moments throughout the film. In addition to singing and dancing, the audience is encouraged to wear their black leather biker jackets, powder-pink bomber jackets, poodle skirts, greased hair and anything else worn in the 50s at Rydell High.
Before the event, the Palace has planned a variety of pre-show activities to get patrons in the spirit of the show. Pinkberry will be on site to hand-out custom-made “Pink Lady” frozen yogurt samples to guests in the lobby, while patrons and their pals take turns posing for pictures in Powerstation Events’ Grease themed photo booth. As an added bonus, the Waterbury Fire Department hotties will also be on hand to pose for photos with all of the pink ladies in attendance before debuting their new calendar in the fall of 2015.
The year 2012 marked the 40th anniversary of the Grease stage musical, which later spawned the classic 1978 film of the same name. To mark the occasion, Sing-a-Long-a presents this special film screening that gives the audience the chance to sing some of their favorite songs, including “Grease,” “Summer Nights,” “Beauty School Dropout,” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You.” For more information, visit www.singalonga.net
