In 1926 radium was a miracle cure, Madame Curie and international celebrity, and luminous watches (all the rage) until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer, a dial painter, as she battles the U.S. Radium Corporation and her own family and friends, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.

Much Ado About...Something

THIS WEEKEND
4pm, Jul. 19 (rain date Jul. 20)
Miranda Vineyard
42 Ives Road
Goshen, CT

Welcome to the Vintage Shakesperience 2014, our summer tour of festivals and wineries that includes Sandy Hook, Waterbury, Sherman and Goshen  for a variety of performances including Shakespeare's King Lear.
This weekend, Shakesperience returns to Miranda Vineyard for our signature interactive experience, Much Ado About...Something.  Brush up on your Shakespeare with a picnic, some wine tasting, and scenes featuring our talented professional resident artists, and...YOU.

Since he was a small boy in Europe, Manny Miranda dreamed of planting his own vineyard and building his own winery. In 2001, together with his wife, Maria, he planted the first vines and built the winery modeled after the old family winery in Portugal. For more than a decade, Manny and his sons have been busy perfecting those Old World techniques passed down from generation to generation. They've been mixing heritage with science, and they've created some very special wines they hope you will enjoy as much as they do. Cheers! Or as they say in Portuguese 'Saude!'

Tickets to this Vintage Shakesperience are available here.  Don't miss it.

Shakesperience Another Great Winery

The Reluctant Dragon

6pm, Aug. 2 (rain date Aug. 3)
White Silo Winery
32 Connecticut 37
Sherman, CT

A shepherd girl races against time and popular opinion to protect and defend her dragon friend from other villagers, St. George, and certain destruction. A giant set of Cuisenaire® rods forms the backdrop for costumes inspired by the art of René Magritte as this production highlights themes of stereotype and prejudice encapsulated in environmental sustainability.

White Silo Winery is an award winning farm & winery located in the picturesque foothills of Sherman CT. They're a family-operated boutique winery specializing in small batch fruit and grape wine production. In addition to our wine they make gourmet farm products and grow a variety of berries, fruits and vegetables.

Shakespeare on the Shoreline

King Lear

August 6-10, 2014
7:30pm
The Guilford, CT Town Green

Shoreline Arts Alliance, in collaboration with Shakesperience Productions, the Guilford Free Library and the Acton Public Library (Old Saybrook) are presenting an insiders' look at the King Lear production for this summer's Shakespeare on the Shoreline.

To engage the audience in the underlying themes found in King Lear and to better understand the "family friendly" interpretation of this great Shakespearean tragedy, join director Emily Mattina and Dr. David Richman as they tour the region to speak about their imaginative, provocative, and free production of King Lear. Presentations will take place on the following days and locations: Aug. 6, 2 p.m. at the Guilford Free Library, 67 Park Street, Guilford; and Aug. 7, 1 p.m. at the Acton Public Library, 60 Old Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook. Both venues are open to the public and the events are free.

Mattina's King Lear explores the choices we make for our children and family as well as the overall welfare of children: physically, emotionally, and educationally. Explore the essence of blindness, both literally and figuratively, to our own actions, consequences and blessings.

Dr. David Richman, published author, actor, director, and professor at The University of New Hampshire, stars as King Lear. Dr. Richman’s real-life blindness gives a literal portrayal of the "blindness" in his character.  He will be a significant presence and has been the impetus to develop a program that will be more inclusive and provide opportunities for a broader based audience. An American sign language interpreter will take part in the Aug. 6 performance, as well as the following at all performances: braille and large print programs; assisted listening devices for the hearing impaired; volunteer escorts to assist the audience on and off the Green; increased lighting for safer and more accessibility to the Green.
