DeKay or Dessert?
I was back behind Naugatuck High School flipping boards, (my favorite place to look for snakes) and I found this little guy under a small piece of cardboard. They are very tame and they never bite BUT, LOL, I noticed a blue tinge to his eyes and this means it is about to shed it's skin. Most snakes will get a very nasty temperament when they are in shedding mode. Scientists (Herpetologists) are not sure why but think it is because they are nearly blind at this point. Needless to say I did not pick him up! I don't recommend anyone picking up a snake unless you are very knowledgeable on the type. We do have two poisonous snakes in Ct. the copperhead and the rattlesnake. This is a DeKay or it's more common name the small Brown Snake. The reason I'm posting this picture is to find out if I'm the only one that thinks the way he is curled up makes him look like the pastry I used to eat as a child. I think it was called Elephant Ears? Any input from readers?
