Obituaries: Couple That Died Following Rt. 8 Crash

A Shelton couple, Barbara and Christopher Powell, died from injuries sustained in an accident on Route 8 on Sunday, according to WTNH. They had borough connections, as Barbara worked at bars in Naugatuck.

Obituary: Barbara L. Powell Dies at 47

SHELTON — Mrs. Barbara L. “Barb” (Clark)( Marxo) Powell, 47, of Shelton, passed away Early Sunday morning Dec. 18, 2011, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. She was the wife of the late Christopher Powell. They were married Oct. 30, 2010

Barb was born in Derby, a daughter of the late Albert R. and Catherine Clark and had been a resident of Shelton for the past 4 months formerly living in Ansonia.  She had formerly been employed by Big Y Supermarkets and had a career as a professional bartender, having worked at the Dutch Front Café and Peggy Fenn’s both in Naugatuck and most recently the Brooklyn Café in Waterbury.

Barb is survived by her children; two sons, Travis J. Marxo and his wife Charlotte and Micheil A. Marxo and his companion Ashley Groves all of Milford; a daughter Valerie L. Shults and her husband Ross of Kittery, Maine; one brother, Charles Clark, Sr. and his wife Sharon of Milford, Mass.; 3 grandchildren, Billy Hughey, IV, Dashiell Marxo and Rodney Shults. She was predeceased by a brother James Clark, Sr.

Joint funeral services for Barb and Chris will be held on Friday Dec. 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. (Rt. 63). Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, 219 New Haven Ave. (Rt. 34), Derby. Obituary: Christopher Powell Dies at 34

SHELTON — Mr. Christopher “Chris” G. Powell, 34, of Shelton, passed away early Sunday morning Dec. 18, 2011, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Clark) (Marxo) Powell. They were married Oct. 30, 2010.

Chris was born in Manhattan, N.Y., Oct. 7, 1977, a son of Kenneth W. Powell and Brigitta (Backroos) (Powell) Ryan and had been a Shelton resident for the past four months, having formerly lived in Ansonia. He was a Mason by trade and had been employed the Archdiocese of Hartford Cemetery Association for the past 11 years, working at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby.

Besides his father of Brewster, N.Y., and his mother of Shelton, Chris is survived by two sons, Travis J. Marxo and his wife Charlotte and Micheil A. Marxo and his companion Ashley Groves all of Milford; a daughter Valerie L. Shults and her husband Ross of Kittery, Maine; three grandchildren, Billy Hughey, IV, Dashiell Marxo and Rodney Shults.
