Obituary: Anna E. (Andrews) Gawitt Dies at 101

NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Anna E. (Andrews) Gawitt, 101, of Weid Drive, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Beacon Brook Health Center. She was widow of Henry Gawitt.

Mrs. Gawitt was born in Naugatuck on April 14, 1910, a daughter of the late George and Sophie (Ostrauch) Andrews. She was a lifelong Naugatuck resident and communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Prior to her marriage, she had worked at Uniroyal Inc. and Peter Paul Inc. For many years after, she, along with her husband, Henry, ran Gawitt's Market in Naugatuck. She enjoyed spending time with her family.

She leaves a sister, Genevieve Kaufman of Mount Dora, Fla., and several nieces and nephews, including John Kaufman of Prospect and Dennis Gawitt of Seymour. She was predeceased by her sisters, Bernice Andrews and Paula Brennan, and her brother, Frank Andrews.

Her funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
