Doris (Farguson) Mason, 87, of Southview Street, Naugatuck, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2013 after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late George Mason.
Mrs. Mason was born on July 3, 1925, in Santiago, Cuba, the daughter of the late Adolfo Farguson and Hilda Rodney. She was co-owner of the Mason's Variety Store in Waterbury for many years and was an attendee of the Grace Baptist Church in Waterbury. Doris is survived by four daughters, Elaine Mason of Toronto, Canada, Edris Mason-Silva of Naugatuck, Clothilde Mason-Powell of Beltsville, Md., and Hilda Mason-Compton and her husband Mark of Bowie, Md., one son, Leslie G. Mason and his wife Vanessa of Punta Gorda, Fla., 13 grandchildren, including Tanya Silva of N.C., Tammie Silva of Naugatuck, Dione Silva of Naugatuck, Dony'l Silva of Oklahoma, Alexandra Mason-Harty of Toronto, Canada, Nicholas Mason-Harty of Toronto, Canada, Milton Powell Jr. of Texas, Breonna Compton of Bowie, Md., and Brandon Compton of Bowie, Md. She will also be missed by her four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Gerald Griffiths and a son in law, Donald Silva.
Funeral services and burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck is in charge of the arrangements.
