Obituary: Elvira (Rebimbas) Da Silva Dies at 89

The following obituary was provided by Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home.

NAUGATUCK – Mrs. Elvira (Rebimbas) Da Silva, 89, of Olive Street, Naugatuck, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2011 surrounded by her family at the VITAS Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the widow of Agostinho Da Silva.

Mrs. Da Silva was born in Portugal on May 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Manuel Fonseca and Anna Tavares Remimbas. She was a Naugatuck resident since 1968 and a retiree of Naugatuck Glass Company where she worked for 37 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

She leaves eight children, Amalia Reis and husband Jose of Naugatuck, Manuel Da Silva and wife Laura of Southbury, Elvira Rebelo and husband Antonio of Naugatuck, Agostinho Da Silva and wife Cynthia of New Haven, Antonio Da Silva and wife Fatima of Propsect, Augusto ‘Gus’ Da Silva and wife Joana of Southbury, Gloria Oliveira and husband Servio of Portugal, Jose Da Silva and wife Catarina of Naugatuck; two sisters Benedita Oliveira and Olimpia Ruela both of Naugatuck; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will held on Thursday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck to Our Lady of Fatima Church, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck.
