Obituary: Joseph Strozeski, 72, of Naugatuck

Mr. Strozeski was a senior chief petty officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

 

NAUGATUCK-  Senior Chief Petty Officer, Joseph Strozeski, (USCG-Ret.), 72, of Naugatuck, passed away Tuesday evening Oct. 16, 2012 at the Waterbury Hospital.  He was the wife of Rosalie (Parks) Strozeski.

Joe was born in Port Austin, Mich., Sept. 30, 1940, a son of the late Anthony A. and Agnes (Geretski) Strozeski and was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Warren, Mich. He had been a Naugatuck resident for the past 30 years and was a member of the Naugatuck Lodge # 967, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk’s, and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

Besides his wife of 30 years, he leaves one son, CWO, Joseph Strozeski,USCG, stationed in Suffolk, VA.; 3 daughters, Shirley Finnegan and her husband Peter of Maggie Valley, N.C., Theresa Oliver and her husband Gregg of Newport, N.C., and Sharon Fairbank and her husband Doug of Marysville, MI.; two Step-children, William Workman of Naugatuck, and Rose Irene Workman of Baltimore, MD.; 5 brothers, Frederick Strozeski and his wife Elaine of East Pointe, MI., Eugene Michaels and his wife Jackie of Clinton Twp., MI., Bernie Stone and his wife Sandie of ChesterField, MI., Edward Strozeski and his wife Karen of Washington, MI., and Charles Strozeski and his wife Penny of Sterling Heights, MI.; 3 sisters, Evelyn Elliott and her husband Clyde of Macomb Twp., MI, Lorraine Sexton and her husband Kevin of Warren, MI, and Helen Swisher and her husband Donald of ChesterField, MI.; 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews .  He was predeceased by his twin brother James Strozeski.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 338 North Main St., Union City. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church prior to Mass. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.  Full military honors will be accorded at the church following the Mass.  There are no calling hours.  The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coast Guard Foundation, 394 Taugwonk Road, Stonington, CT 06378.
