Fund abortion by paying a few bucks each month, or lose your health policy? That's what my insurance provider told me.

"So, what you're telling me is unless I pay a few bucks every month to support abortion, I won't have insurance here in CT?" I had just such a conversation with my new insurance provider yesterday. And unless I had experienced it for myself, I would have thought the couple in the following article were stretching the truth -- at least a bit -- about a very similar experience. When a local pharmacy rejected my new insurance that I got through the CT exchange a couple days ago, I called the insurance company to investigate why. I was told I owe them $3.04 cents. Confused, since I had been told a day earlier that all was well with my insurance, I asked why? The rep told me it's a surcharge or donation of sorts to help fund abortion. I was shocked. Personally, I don't believe people should be forced to compromise their values -- whatever they may be -- in order to access healthcare paid for with US and state taxpayer dollars, including mine. The attached article indicates that CT does not allow anyone to opt out of paying to support abortion. In other words, if you bought insurance on the CT exchange, you are very likely paying to fund abortions, regardless of the plan you chose from the exchange. Please, please read the article and weigh in on this on this forum. If true -- and my experience with my insurance company yesterday seems to bear this out -- this apparent violation of one's civil rights should be looked in to. If this kind of coercion can be done over the controversial issue of abortion (a lightning rod issue), it can conceivably be done over every other controversial societal issue. In other words, John or Jane Doe, pay to support this cause -- whether you really want to or not -- or you'll be denied what you need to get along in life, such as affordable healthcare.

I hope you'll read the following article because, whether you know it or not, if you got your health insurance policy from the CT exchange, it certainly seems you're supporting abortion. Maybe you're okay with that. I'm not. For one thing, there are plenty of agencies that pay for abortions and we the people are free to donate to them directly.
