Naugatuck Budget Vote Scheduled for July 29: How Will You Vote?

Some voters plan to abstain from voting in the hope turnout is too low to count.

Waterbury Republican-American reporter Paul Singley does his best to breakdown the complicated upcoming budget referendum that will take place in the borough on July 29. 

In Singley’s article, he notes numerous signs have popped up around the borough urging residents to vote no on the proposed $115 million spending plan. Those residents believe the budget proposal is too high and want it reduced further. 

But residents who support the budget as is, including many elected officials, plan to abstain from voting on July 29.

And that’s because if less than 15 percent of voters vote on the budget on July 29 the outcome doesn’t matter according to Naugatuck’s charter. It also means the budget adopted by the Borough will go into effect. 

Several officials say if the budget is defeated the only place to reduce further is in services residents have come to expect and deserve, the Republican-American reports.
