Naugatuck Mayor Continues to Support Community Garden Concept

Mayor said he is open to ideas from the public about where the garden should be located.

Naugatuck Mayor Bob Mezzo says he supports the concept of a community garden, but the biggest questions remains where to put it.

It appeared that question had been answered reentry as the Board of Education and Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to place the garden at Cross Street School. But Meadowside Place residents objected because of traffic and safety concerns, and the project is now dead.

But it won’t be forgotten, Mezzo told Naugatuck Patch. He said there has been support for a garden for a long time.

Mezzo said he understands Meadowside Place residents concerns and he is open to ideas from the community about where it should be placed.

“The thing we encounter is people like the idea but don’t want it in their backyard,” Mezzo said. “The community has yet to find an acceptable location for it.”
