Naugatuck Plans for the Future

Take a look at the strategic report for the borough.

Mayors, burgesses, Board of Education members...they come and go on a regular basis.

But the general vision and goals for the future of the borough should remain relatively similar, according to a municipal planning and consulting firm, Blum Shapiro.

For the first time in its history, Naugatuck has attempted to have an outside agency, Blum Shapiro, craft a blueprint for the future of municipal government and school system.

The overall mission statement for borough, as proposed, is: "Naugatuck will be a safe, vibrant, innovative, healthy community, providing the highest overall quality of municipal services possible."

A draft report of that plan, which included several months of studies, plus interviews with elected and appointed borough officials, municipal and school employees and residents, was released for the first time to the boards of mayor and burgesses, education and finance at City Hill Middle School Monday night.

The boards will take time to review the plan before setting another meeting date to discuss it in-depth and possibly vote on whether to accept it.

We will be covering this issue in detail and plan to bring you much more in the coming days and weeks about what the report says and what it means for Naugatuck's future.
