Naugatuck Seeks Downtown Development Proposals

The borough is looking for a "mixed-used, transit oriented development."

The Naugatuck Economic Development Corp. is actively seeking downtown development proposals from builders.

Mayor Bob Mezzo has announced on his blog that the borough is "seeking a mixed-use, transit oriented development in downtown Naugatuck." In other words, the borough is looking for someone interested in developing something that has both retail and office space (and possibly living space), as well as a development that utilizes the railway and Naugatuck's easy access on and off Route 8. That is similar to the concept of the former Renaissance Place proposal, but it doesn't appear that Naugatuck is looking for anything of the size and scope of that project, which would have encompassed more than 50 acres downtown in all four phases.

The primary area of development is the approximately 16.5 acres of Borough-owned property in downtown, including Parcel A and B of the General DataComm, Inc. property at 6 Rubber Ave., along Old Firehouse Road; Parcel C at the corner of Maple and Water streets; and the Naugatuck Train Station at 195 Water St., Mezzo said.

Naugatuck recently bought the General DataComm. site for $2 million GDC is currently renting the first floor of the building.

Developers who are interested can read Mezzo's blog here for more information.
