Naugatuck Has Regional Fire Poster Contest Winner

Hailey Russell will represent New Haven County at the state fire prevention poster contest luncheon on March 27.

Hailey Russell, a fifth-grade student at Hillside Intermediate School in Naugatuck, has won first place out of all fifth-graders in New Haven County in the annual fire prevention poster contest. A luncheon will be held March 27 to honor area award winners and announce the state winner.

The drawing will be displayed in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford in October as part of Fire Prevention month, said Acting Deputy Fire Marshal Bill Scanlon. And her posted will be featured in the 2014 Fire Prevention calendar.

Russell is the daughter of Naugatuck High School teacher Michelle Russell and Second Assistant Fire Chief Paul Russell. Scanlon said Paul Russell was not involved in choosing winners for the poster contest and that those picking the winners did not know the names of the artists before they were chosen.
